Description
An account of the resource
Empty basket being held by two hands, farm fields in the background with people harvesting crops. This propaganda poster advertises two things. The first is the importance of participating in the growing of food. Even if you were unable to grow your own personal garden, you could still participate by helping to harvest a farm. Second, the propaganda poster shows that it is important for everyone to work together to help the war effort.

Where Our Men are Fighting, Our Food is Fighting
Subject
The topic of the resource
World War II Propaganda
Description
An account of the resource
Food crate being parachuted down accompanied with two soldiers. FDR's administration valued food. They constantly told the home front population how important it was. They endorsed the policy of having Americans grow their own food because it provided a way for the home front to be involved in the war effort. In addition, it meant that food being grown on farms could be dropped off and sent to American soldiers, instead of being shipped to grocery stores. Conserving and growing their own food meant that more food could be allocated to troops, and food was able to fight twice.

Nutrition propaganda
Description
An account of the resource
Cartoon boy and girl playing catch. Real boy eating a nutritious meal. Healthy nutrition and access to food was very important to FDR's administration. This poster told the home front that children's nutrition was especially important. In addition, this propaganda poster also invites children to take part of their own nutrition, and demonstrates that they are valued members of society. This paves the way to the idea that children could participate in the war effort, as well as receive better nutrition if they grew a victory garden.
