Title
Grow it Yourself: Plan a Farm Garden Now!
Subject
Victory Garden Propaganda
Description
Poster of vegetable farm garden being watered. This propaganda poster encourages the home front to grow the type of garden that will supply an abundance of food. The poster tells the home front to grow a "Farm Garden", which reflects the idea that a garden can still be a garden even if it is quite large. Essentially, the idea of government-endorsed gardening encompasses any way that the government influences or encourages the population to grow food. This poster is important because it ties earlier types of farm gardens, such as the idea of Thomas Jefferson's Yeoman farmer, to the idea of government-endorsed gardening. It was not about how much, or how little, land that your garden was grown upon, it was about producing as much food as a person was able to grow. Furthermore, farm gardens also relate to the idea that food production for personal consumption was not just for small victory garden patches, rather victory gardens could also be grown on the farms that were producing large quantities of food, which was then shipped to American soldiers and allies throughout the world.
